Live Traffic — Real-time information about incidents on your journey
Transport for NSW (TfNSW) faced the challenge of redesigning and upgrading their Live Traffic app to provide millions of drivers with real-time traffic incident information. Their goal was to replace the outdated version with a modern, user-friendly app that mirrored the desktop web experience while leveraging native iOS and Android functionalities for better user engagement. The new app would help users plan journeys across New South Wales, whether short commutes or long-distance travel, and avoid disruptions caused by roadworks, events, floods, fires, and more.

We began with prototyping, meticulously crafting and testing UX prototypes to ensure a user-centric experience. These prototypes were assessed by a diverse user base, from commercial drivers to families and commuters, aligning functionality with their preferences. I was responsible for developing a design system and UI kit, in line with the Transport for NSW style guide, which evolved into a technically robust solution.
After a total of four months of design and build, the new, improved TfNSW Live Traffic app was released to the app store before the holiday season. Achieving a remarkable 4+ star rating on the iOS App Store and amassing 2.4 million users. The app now efficiently handles user demand, leveraging the latest native iOS and Android functionalities, particularly during peak periods, such as major incidents like fires, floods, and significant events.
